Serious Injures Reported From Transvaginal Surgical Mesh Failure

Transvaginal mesh surgery has been used to treat pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI). However, women who undergo transvaginal procedures may suffer severe side effects. Serious complications occur when the organs prolapse into the vagina or prolapse past the vaginal opening and the support system of the vagina weakens and can no longer hold the organs in place.

If you or a loved one underwent transvaginal mesh surgery to treat POP or SUI and suffered painful complications, you need a lawyer to protect your rights and ensure you're fairly compensated for your damages. Schedule a free consultation with our lawyers. Call 419-408-9431 or contact us online.

FDA warnings about transvaginal surgical mesh

The risks of transvaginal mesh products have been known since the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning about the products in 2008. Despite the warning, in 2010 more than 750,000 had transvaginal mesh surgeries. More recently, the FDA has expressed concern with the high number of adverse events linked to transvaginal mesh products. From Jan. 1, 2008 through the end of 2010, it received 2,874 additional reports of surgical mesh complications. In January 2012, the FDA ordered more than 30 manufacturers of transvaginal surgical mesh to conduct additional studies of the product.
